"BROOKVILLE, Md. (WUSA) - A Nissan Leaf is the only reason Doron Shalvi still has unspoiled food in his fridge. When the storm hit this week, his car was fully powered, and Shalvi, a member of the Electric Vehicle Association, was able to power his household items with the car's electric energy. A smaller battery inside the hood connects to an inverter, which makes it possible for other items to use the electricity from the Leaf.
